A couple of weeks ago, I participated in a sleep study as recommended by my weight management doctor. Sleep apnea is a co-moribidity that causes a person to stop breathing during their sleep due to an obstructed airway. Carrying a lot of excess weight will increase the chances of having sleep apnea, SO due to my weight and need to justify the vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) surgery to my insurance company, the doctor recommended that I participate. On Friday, I had a follow-up appointment with the sleep medicine doctor to hear my results… Continue reading

Pre-Op Diet: Month Two
So today marked the end of my second month of the six month, supervised, pre-op diet. Things have been going pretty well and I”m feeling optimistic! The stomach pain that I was feeling for a couple of weeks seems to be gone now (thank goodness!) I’m continuing to take 40mg of Omeprazole daily so hopefully I won’t be experiencing that anytime soon!! Continue reading
Mystery Stomach Pain & NSV
Well, I’m glad to report that the mystery stomach pain that I have been having since January 1st has been getting better. About two weeks ago, my doctor prescribed Omeprazole and maybe that is finally taking affect! I still don’t know what the cause of the problem was, BUT I do have a hunch….
Is That a “3” I See??
When I woke up this morning, I had no idea that I was about to witness a big milestone in my weight loss as part of this journey towards having a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG). When I got up this morning and got on the scale… this is what I saw: Continue reading
Sleep Study Complete
So, last night I participated in a sleep study for the first time. The doctor at the Weight Management Clinic recommended that I get the study to check for sleep apnea. Having sleep apena and not treating it can lead to a dangerous surgery from what I understand. She had asked me if I felt tired all the time, was restless, or a light sleeper and despite me answering no to all of the questions she sent me to have it done anyway. I guess that’s what comes with the severely morbidly obese territory! Continue reading
Having a Tough Time
Ugh… I’m feeling terrible. There is something wrong with me and I don’t know what it is! I saw my PCP today because since last Tuesday I have been having horrible stomach cramps after I eat and some bathroom issues. At first I thought maybe I was just getting the flu, but things have persisted with no change and no other symptoms!
It’s strange… it’s not a sharp pain, it doesn’t hurt to touch my stomach… it’s just cramping after I eat. It’s very painful and I’m a bit frustrated today because I’m eating so healthy and following my plan so closely, yet now I’m sick somehow? Ugh!
The doctor didn’t really know what it was…. she wants me to start taking an antibiotic for an infection and get an ultrasound for my gallblader just in case there is something going on there – just in case!
Ugh! Just had to vent today!
A Perspective Change
I’ve been pretty hardcore on this six month pre-op diet. I’ve been working on it since November 20th and I think I’m down around 37 lbs. I’m really excited about it as I’m seeing dramatic results without starving myself and following exactly what the doctor told me to do.
It’s amazing how your perspective can change when you start to eat a bit healthier. About once or twice a week, I decide to have fat free sherbet after dinner. I know that this isn’t a 100% healthy snack (despite being fat free) because of the sugar and carbs; however, this is the ONLY sugar that I eat these days that isn’t part of a fruit, whole wheat wrap, etc. I realize that this is a post-op food NO-NO.
